In Part 3 of our ‘Going Places with a Curtin Degree’ webinar series, we feature three Curtin Malaysia alumni from Malaysia, Vietnam and Bangladesh who decided to seek their fortunes in other countries and are now pursuing successful careers in Singapore, Australia and Malaysia. Find out from them what unique challenges you might face working in a foreign country, and just how far a Curtin degree can take you. You’ll also get to hear how has the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their industries and what new graduates can expect in the new normal.

Meet the panelists


Shoo Lik Fang 
Sales & Marketing Executive, SOCOTEC Certification Singapore
Bachelor of Commerce (Management and Marketing) graduate, class of 2018
Lik Fang, who is from Johore, graduated from Curtin Malaysia with a Bachelor of Commerce in Management and Marketing in 2018, and currently works as a sales and marketing executive with SOCOTEC Certification Singapore, a management consultancy company based in Singapore. During her studies at Curtin Malaysia, she led an active student life and was a member of the Curtin Malaysia Student Council. Due to her excellent results, she was consistently placed on the Dean’s List and won several student awards, including Best Student in 3rd Year International Business Unit Award and Best Management and Marketing Graduate Award.


Nguyen Quang Minh
Process Engineer, Ecolab Manufacturing Plant, Brisbane, Australia
Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) graduate, class of 2017
Minh from Vietnam currently works as a process engineer for the Ecolab Manufacturing Plant in Brisbane, Australia, where he works under the plant manager to lead process improvement projects with the aim of increasing efficiency and quality. Previously, following his graduation from Curtin Malaysia with a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering in 2017, he worked in a pesticide/herbicide manufacturing plant and a steel plant. During his years at Curtin Malaysia, he was actively involved in the Curtin Oratory and Debating Society and won first place in the technical debate competition held in conjunction with the National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES) in 2015. Minh also participated in several conferences such as the 3rd International Conference on Green Chemical Engineering Technology and the 6th Conference on Emerging Energy and Process Technology.


Araf Bin Tarek
Business Development Manager, SalesCandy International Sdn Bhd
Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) graduate, class of 2017
A native of Bangladesh, Araf graduated from Curtin Malaysia with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting in 2017. Besides being a business development manager with SalesCandy International Sendirian Berhad in Kuala Lumpur, Araf is a career motivational speaker as he truly believes that ‘growth is limitless and all one needs is the right push’.  He has been speaking at events in various countries since a very young age, initially through debating, a passion he was able to further nurture at Curtin Malaysia as a member of the Curtin Oratory and Debating Society and Curtin University Model United Nations. Araf was also president of various student clubs and events, including the Borneo Model United Nations, Curtin University Model United Nations and Curtin Finance Club. He was awarded Best Delegate at the Borneo Model United Nations, Honorable Mention Award at the BRAC Model United Nations, and Outstanding Delegate Award at the LORD Model United Nations – all in 2016.



Julius Tan
Lead Analyst, Ebdesk Malaysia
Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) graduate, class of 2014
After graduating from Curtin Malaysia with a Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) in 2014, Julius from Kuala Lumpur started his career as a finance journalist, during which he won two awards for financial writing – the Dato’ Koh Peng Chor Excellence in Finance and Economy Article Award 2016 and Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum Excellence in Property Article Award 2015. He later ventured into the field of data analytics and is currently working as the lead analyst at Big Data consultation firm Ebdesk Malaysia, where he helps companies, as well as government agencies, uncover meaningful and actionable insights from data.


Casandra John
Final year student in Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing and Public Relations)
Cassandra from Miri is an exemplary student who is a high-achiever in both her academic and extracurricular pursuits. Her active student life has seen her being an exco member of the Curtin Volunteers!, stage director for the Transcendance 5 production, secretary of the Curtin Bodybuilding & Physique Club, and now, artistic director of the campus’ After Hours video channel.
